NY Fashion Week: Christian Siriano channels Audrey Hepburn in a garden

Christian Siriano lined his New York Fashion Week runway Thursday with thousands of multicolored flowers and put wide-brimmed hats worthy of muse Audrey Hepburn on some of his models to top off a big week.

First, there was the custom burgundy power suit he made Vice President Kamala Harris for Tuesday’s State of the Union. He nailed it in one trip to Washington, D.C., in one fitting.

“And we had the Grammys and fashion week,” Siriano told The Associated Press in a backstage interview. “We had no time and I was like, well, we hope it works. It’s just such an honor. We wanted to make her look really beautiful and powerful.”

Then there was his update of Alicia Silverstone’s iconic “Clueless” yellow plaid skirt set for her Rakuten Super Bowl commercial airing Sunday. He even scored a cameo as a student in Cher Horowitz’s debate class.

Women’s Suits Shine at Milan Fashion Week

Milan’s showrooms were packed with terrific tailoring this season, with brands and designers focusing on light constructions (even for winter), statement color and traditional British weaves and patterns such as glen plain check and houndstooth.

Massimo Alba said he wants his women to move easily in his designs, and to emphasize that point he made a black-and-white film showing his wife, children, friends and models grooving around in his clothes.

More from WWD

The film, which will be broadcast on the designer’s social channels, was based on Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests.

“It’s not really about the clothing itself, but rather who wears the clothing and how they express themselves in it,” said the designer, who prides himself on clothing that’s “loose and relaxed, and unconstructed.”

Perfectly Paired: Sandy Liang Channels the New All-Electric Nissan ARIYA for Fashion Week

Liang’s muse was thrilled by the final piece: a strapless black mini dress in premium fabric with a silhouette that emphasizes motion. “It’s sleek, it’s comfortable, it’s timeless—I’m never taking it off,” Fahy enthuses. The actress soon got to take her custom Sandy Liang creation for a test drive, so to speak, during Fashion Week. At one of New York’s most iconic nightclubs, overlooking a spectacular view of the city, a vast array of fashion folks and beautiful people gathered to raise a glass to the Nissan ARIYA, one of which the crowd got to admire up-close—the crisp, minimal design of the electric SUV sat on display on the cobblestone streets of the Meatpacking District down below.

A new wave of Chinese designers sweeps the European fashion industry

At a time when China is turning towards its domestic market, the
emergence of new Chinese designers, positioned at the top of the range, is
not insignificant. Especially since this young generation is challenging
preconceived ideas about “made in China”, thereby creating what can be
called a “new wave”.

The mention of Chinese brands often leads to negative perceptions,
whether technical, ecological or ethical. It is misunderstanding the
potential of this country, which has historical clothing traditions, has
become the world’s factory (and therefore knows how to manufacture) and
represents an ideal target clientele for luxury brands (and therefore knows
how to appreciate beautiful things).

“The pejorative aspect of Made in China and fast fashion have gradually
made us forget that China is one of the first civilisations to develop a
real know-how in clothing,” said Jean-Loup Rebours, a young entrepreneur
that has opened an agency dedicated to Chinese fashion.

The 23-year-old singer –  who recently flashed her cleavage and thong for Milan Fashion Week – went eyebrow-free and rocked her lustrous mane of raven hair.

Cyrus embraced a futuristic aesthetic as she oozed otherworldly edge in the greenish gray getup.

Her voluptuous curves were hugged by the skintight design that featured full gloves, a thigh-high slit in its skirt, and edgy pantaleggings.

Fall-winter fashion from Dior on display in Paris

PARIS –

After Milan, global fashion’s spotlight shifted to the final stretch of ready-to-wear shows in Paris on Tuesday, as the industry looks to the future with all the final fall trends.

But displays in the French capital will also revisit the past this week, with homages to recently deceased designers Vivienne Westwood and Paco Rabanne.

Here are some highlights of Tuesday’s fall-winter 2023-2024 collections, including Dior:

DIOR’S REBELS

A surreal and colorful organic world awaited guests inside Paris’ Tuileries gardens.

A spectacular Dior installation suggestive of a giant octopus spanned the length and breadth of the runway, its color-rich fabric tentacles gleaming with thousands of tiny lights. It was the work of Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, who wanted to explore how organic form interacted with the “feminine realm of artisanal savoir-faire.” It made for a dazzling backdrop especially given the flurry of paparazzi

Chinese model Ming Xi buys designer bags worth $19k for her 1-year-old daughter

These tiny bags can barely hold a smartphone, let alone all the essentials you would find in a woman’s handbag.

But in a six-minute video uploaded to Xiaohongshu last month that recently caught attention, Chinese model Ming Xi said she decided to buy a few for her one-year-old daughter Romee so the girl can use them in the future.

According to HK01, the five bags costing around HK$110,000 (S$19,300) are a Louis Vuitton Nano Speedy (HK$14,100), a Chanel handle bag with chain (HK$18,000), a Chanel bucket bag with chain (HK$31,800), a Dior Micro Lady bag (HK$29,000) and a Dior Micro Saddle bag (HK$21,600).

Pulling out the miniature Louis Vuitton bag, the 33-year-old said: “It’s a really, really small bag and is super cute! I feel my daughter can use it in the future.

“It’s very trendy to go retro nowadays, so I can buy a bigger Louis Vuitton Speedy
