Secondhand style strides forward in Oxfam’s London fashion week show | London fashion week

The first show to kick off London fashion week on Thursday night had all the usual elements you’d expect – a long runway with pumping music, models in towering heels and surprise celebrity appearances causing the front row to whip out their phones.

However, there was one particular point of difference: the cast, including the model Erin O’Connor, TV presenter Miquita Oliver and the trans activist Munroe Bergdorf, were all wearing secondhand clothes.

The show, Oxfam Fashion Fighting Poverty, was the third time the nonprofit has taken part in London fashion week.

All the clothes came from Oxfam’s own stores and were styled by the British stylist Bay Garnett. Every look was available to buy on eBay after the show, helping to raise funds for the charity.

Street Style: London Fashion Week FW 23′

Street Style: London Fashion Week FW 23′

As Milan Fashion Week is currently underway, we thought we would look back at some of the stellar street-style from LFW. London is known for its eccentric, punk sensibility and with its chilly weather — coats! Letterman jackets, a Coi Leray sighting, Hanifa boots, check, leather, the street style this fall/winter 2023 season has been quite impressive, and London didn’t disappoint.

Spotted trends; tons of vibrant colors, moto-jackets, oversized blazers, elevated athleisure, boots mixed with comfy sneakers, mules and crocs, and just an underlining understated cool edge.

These Are The Street Style Trends We Spotted At London Fashion Week AW23

While the runways of London Fashion Week AW23 predict the trends of the future (drop-waist everything, we see you), it’s on the backs of editors, buyers and influencers sitting front row where the trends of now are really taking shape.

Thankfully, we had Darrel Hunter of Modehunter out on the streets of London capturing the parade of looks on show-attendees, so we know what pieces were popular with London’s tastemakers. Leather bomber jackets, back-to-school-style skirts, XL trouser cuffs and Tabi shoes were the true stand-out street style stars this season, let’s take a look where to shop and how to style them now.

Braids, Braids and More Braids Dominated London Fashion Week Street Style

Plus: bold lip and eye looks, bright hair color and lots of hair accessories.

As the Fall 2023 season trucks along, fashion week attendees have already made it from the frigid temperatures of New York City to the similarly cold ones of London. And as everyone flocks to Milan next, we’re taking a moment to appreciate the many stunning beauty looks we spotted among the street style crowd outside the London Fashion Week shows.

This season, showgoers were really, really into braids: We spotted box braids, high-ponytail braids, knotted braids, pigtail braids and corn rows, to name only a handful. The obsession with all things plaited began with New York Fashion Week’s attendees, and we can safely say we now expect it to be the dominant hair trend for all of fashion month — at least off the runways.

In addition to all these intricate hairstyles,

The eight style lessons to take away from London Fashion Week

When the going gets tough, the tough dress up. Always have. Always will. It’s an atavistic human reflex. When battle looms you literally slap on your war paint. Maxed-out glamour during the 1930s. Lipstick duties during the 1940s. Solar bursts of yellow, body-caressing, stretchy knits, grown-up knee-length skirts, the crispest of shirts, plush coats and a whole lot of dress-up kit at London Fashion Week, February 2023.

This is not a balmy climate, particularly if you’re an independent designer without the cushion of perfumes, sunglasses and make-up to prop you up through the lean times and the occasional global pandemic.

And yet… this is the first time since Covid closed everything down that London Fashion Week has seemed close to recovering its old sparky spirit – both on the catwalk and the line up of A-listers in attendance, from Vanessa Redgrave to Florence Pugh and Stormzy, all proving
